about
All the sung melodies here, with only teeny variations, come from Pavane, Op 50, composed by my main homme Gabriel Fauré in 1887. A later (maybe we could call it a "bridge"?) melody in the original piece became the "verse," and part of the main repeated motif of the original became my chorus. Yes, I'm being a bit playful with the judges, who mostly disliked my prequel to the Beatles' Yesterday last round, by naming my song Yesterday. But it's so rare for me to work in a minor key, so I wanted to have a real minor key kind of message. Something angry-ish, something calling for change, know what I mean? So, for your consideration, I used a melody from long ago to write a song about abandoning nostalgia. About finally saying goodbye to the past. Paul McCartney believes in Yesterday, okay, but Fauré and I are going to burn it down.
lyrics
Finally, all of the things I need to say have
Come to me, and I can’t wait another day
You thought I would believe, you thought I’d never leave
But now I’m burning you down
Yesterday, I gotta get away
I gotta get away from you
Yesterday, I gotta get away
I gotta get away from you
Fantasy, nothing but stories in my mind, you
Lie to me, like I could turn back the time, and
So there was a girl, and so there was a guy,
Goodbye, goodbye
Yesterday, I gotta get away
I gotta get away from you
Yesterday, I gotta get away
I gotta get away from you
