Goals/Inspiration:
1. Great heights inspiration
2. First ten minutes of the movie UP in song form
3. Had a chorus in my head to start this, for you change the lock /I'll change the key, as related to a clever play on the challenge and also to use as the theme, but it didn't make much sense, so I changed it to turn the key.
4. Wanted to write a chorus that landed differently depending on the verse preceding it, so each time you heard the chorus, it took on a different meaning, even though it was the same words
Challenge:
I'm not so solid on key changes and music theory, so I tried to not overreach here and just went for one modulation in the bridge, at 2:28 in the song, before the short third verse and final chorus, then back to the main key. I believe the main song is in F Major, and I pray I managed to put the bridge in A major, which I googled a few times to be sure nothing was close to the relative minor of F Major (which should be D minor).
I'm sure others will have cooler things, but my knowledge of scales and stuff is at the major/minor level, and when you start talking about lydian stuff my mind blanks out, and I didn't want to screw it up.
ADDITIONAL KEY CHANGE NOTES HERE FOR THE BRIDGE:
Believe this bridge is in A major; first half progression is a, a, f#, d, second is a, g#, f#, d. The second progression is simply the midi pattern shifted up from the verse and chorus from starting on F to starting on A, so I am hopeful/medium sure that puts it in A Major for the bridge here, but I really struggle with music theory. Also tried to stay away from D tonic since I looked up the relative minor is D minor, which has neither g#, or f#, so I pray I did this right 🙏. Goes back to F Major for the verse and chorus.]
