Jealous Brother - Time Has Its Orders

from SpinTunes 21 Round 2 by Spintunes

about

The song starts in the key of G (imagine the creativity involved in this decision!). The song remains in that key for the first verse and chorus, and the second verse and chorus. Then it goes into a bridge that sets up the transition from key of G to key of A-- this transition is so the key change doesn't sound awkward or forced (even though you did force us!). And that's actually fun, because this transitional bridge makes for an interesting (to me) sound that took my by surprise when I first heard it. So hearing those chords made me want to do these vocal harmonies, which I did and to me kind of becomes a unique or memorable part of the song. I don't want the key change to hit you over the head like I did in the last round because that was a more upbeat hit you in the face kind of a song. Also you hadn't assigned a key change, so I wanted you notice it. In this one you already see it coming so may as well make it sound natural. This song should be a little more emotionally complex and not like "look at me, I'm changing key!" So then the third verse is exactly the same as the first two verses except it's in the key of A instead of G! Oh, I mean, AND it also has different words! The third chorus continues the key change (stays in the second key.. speaking of keys, where did I leave my car keys?). Then the bridge transition occurs again (but in the second key), and the song then returns to the original key for the final chorus. Wow explaining all of this feels a bit like explaining a joke, and probably ruined the whole thing! I honestly hope you didn't read this and I really hope you don't grade us based on my explanation.

lyrics

Right down the line,
the wild punches in slow
Part two of goodbye,
he doesn't really want to go
No cure in sight for crying, wailing,
wild grief so elusive tonight

The eyes see what they want to see
Still sinking, still sinking

Right down the hall,
next to what we believe
Is this a tantrum or art?
A bouquet of celebration weeds
Gum so worn down, jaw's coming lose
Awake at dawn, we can only lose

The eyes see what they want to see
Still sinking, still sinking

Bones on the table
Another ritual
Time has its orders
And the order's full

KEY CHANGE to A.

Caffeine in the tank, the headlights extra bright
The best key in the world, now we're all sitting up right
I'm so worn down, it's all coming loose
You're up at dawn and I'm awake with you

But the eyes see what they want to see
Still sinking.... still singing

KEY CHANGE back to original key

The eyes see what they want to see
Still sinking.... still sinking
