Faster Jackelope - The Matter Doesn't Matter

from SpinTunes 16 Round 3 by Spintunes

/

about

This song is to be sung at a funeral.
Truth and I have been close friends for decades. We knew each other's mothers well. We have lost them both. The lyrics evoke a lot of the sentiment from my mother's letter to the attendees of her funeral. She also requested that we play "Boots of Spanish Leather" (Bob Dylan) at her funeral, which Truth and I did. There's also loose references to Joni Mitchell-Stardust, and Saint-Exupery (the Little Prince). The line about traffic lights is also a nod to my favorite Terry Jones bit: "I Like Traffic Lights".

lyrics

The Matter Doesn't Matter

Verse 1
I'm going to a place without pain
I don't see how I can come back again
Someday I know you'll come see me
Take your time, no need to hurry

Pre-Chorus-1
I could've imparted wisdom
But I chose to save my breath
Go with whatever fits in
Until the traffic light turns red

Chorus
All we were is what took place
Tiny bits in a pattern
The bits decay, but we save face
Because the matter doesn't matter

Verse 2
Hell for company, heaven for weather
Spain to get those boots of leather
Cough and laugh and fall apart
Paste together dust of stars

Pre-Chorus-2
On the other side of the schism
There’s room for the sublime
Free parking and baby kittens
I’ve finally found the time

Chorus
Pre-Chorus-1
Chorus
Chorus
