Notes: This is based off of the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, as told from the perspective of Thackery Binks. In the year 1693 in Salem, MA, Thackery is a teenage boy who chases his sister after she is bewitched and lured to a house in the middle of the woods so that the Sanderson sisters can devour her soul to regain their youth. Unfortunately, not only does he fail to save her, he winds up transformed into an immortal black cat forever.

Now, in the film, it immediately cuts forward 300 years to Salem 1993, where the character of Binks the cat has somehow learned to talk and watches the Sanderson house, now a museum, to prevent a virgin from lighting the black flame candle and bringing the witches back. What is never covered, however, is the life of Binks during this 300 year window. The witches never give him any indication that he will EVER be a human again, nor do they ever give him any indication that somehow he'll get his sister back. Nobody knows who he is as a cat, he is not shown to be able to speak during the 17th century scenes, and as far as he knows...he's just cursed to wander Salem as a cat...forever.

This triggers an existential depression, where eventually he wishes he'd just let his sister die, as he apparently failed to save her and completely ruined his existence in the process. It isn't until 1993, 300 years later, where somehow Binks the cat meets up with Max and Dani and Allison and somehow has learned to talk, random bits of back story of Billy Butcherson that he has no business ever learning, and somehow at the end manages to finally get un-cursed after Max, Dani, and Allison defeat the witches and free his sister's soul.

Okay, that makes no damn sense. He spent 300 years of his pitiful cursed life PREVENTING the witches from ever coming back, meaning that if he'd just not bothered, they'd have come back sooner, affording some other protagonist the opportunity to vanquish them for good, and freeing him. But he didn't know that. So he wasted 300 years for no apparent reason.

What an awful life.
