GFS - Ready

So, I actually flew from Austin to NY to help my collaborator Marci upgrade her Pro Tools studio and during the time the gear was down, she sat down at her Yamaha grand and came up with the verse chords in Ab. I immediately loved it and heard the verse melody.

We did a tag team and I sat down at the piano and wrote the chorus chords in F.

We finished the melody and lyrics in the same room for the first time in a long time. Usually we use Sessionwire in Pro Tools and work remotely…

After the 2nd chorus, we debated about writing a bridge and decided to do a half verse doing another modulation to the key of A which leads to the 3rd chorus in F.

At the very end, we decided to come home to the key of Ab with the final resolution chord instead of the more obvious C chord.

Another rare moment was recording this using her new system on her Yamaha grand piano. I don’t remember the last time I recorded a real piano. But Marci played this from start to finish
with no edits…

We loved the song with just a piano and vocal and we debated about not producing the song… but I couldn’t help myself. I did the production when I got back home to Austin. I also have the piano/vocal if anybody wants it.
