Don’t worry - I’d never heard of Antonio Salieri either.

I woke one morning to the aftermath of someone else’s realisation.

“SALIERI! SALIERI! That’s the angle!”

And 'there it is' - we were on. While Toshiro built an orchestral backdrop, I sat my family down to enjoy the 3 hour Directors Cut of ‘Amadeus’.

Amadeus’s Salieri is a complicated character, and no doubt the real Salieri was even more so. When we decided to write about Salieri, we lifted them into the modern day, and placed them in our own shoes - no longer a well-respected court composer who holds audience with the Emperor, our Salieri is another Songfighter or SpinTuner, working hard in their home studio.

The prevailing theme we carried was something I call “Salieri’s Curse”, which describes the despair of being talented enough to know beauty when you hear it, but not being talented enough to produce it yourself. A feeling similar to when Also In Blue drops another masterpiece on us, or when Frontalot would show up to SongFight.

So this is our modern Salieri - pouring their energy and effort into their next track, hoping for the dopamine hits of ’likes’ and some subscribed listeners, while battling the terrible knowledge that their peer has eclipsed them, again.
