SpinTunes 16 Round 3
"Songs of Wisdom": Write an uplifting song to sing for a Graduation, Dedication, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Funeral, Baptism, or similar event.
What I've learned this week; My personal brand of upbeat cynicism doesn't mesh well with "uplifting", so I've had several re-writes this week.
Luckily for me, I just got married a couple of months back, and it's still fresh enough in my mind that the excitement is of it all is still with me. The song is kind of a "Toast to the married couple", and i feel like it's the kind of speech a slightly inebriated, cheesy hopeless-romantic-type might give at the reception.
I feel it comes off as a bit cliche and corny, but this is not my typical style, so I'm kind of impressed with what I produced. The vocals are a bit pitchy, and even clip at one point (sorry, I lost my voice after that take, and couldn't do it again).
...But I've been told that flaws add character.
lyrics
When you came,
was a sign.
Burning bright,
stars align.
Underground,
Roots entwine,
undergrowth,
entangled like vines.
Turn the page,
and you'll find
what that growth
can build overtime
How two seedlings
can eventually combine
into something so strong
It will never unbind
And You can face this tried tradition
No hesitation whatsoever
Knowing whatever happens,
You'll have each other forever.
But forever isn't long enough,
to share this treasured tether.
And maybe no-one is perfect,
But you're perfect together.
With these rings,
you will tie
both your lives
By and by
You will laugh
You will cry
You will shine
in each others eyes
If you should
lose your way
Just think back
to this day,
When you swore
You'd be true
and they swore
the same thing to you
And You can face this tried tradition
No hesitation whatsoever
Knowing whatever happens,
You'll have each other forever.
But forever isn't long enough
to share this treasured tether.
And maybe no-one is perfect,
But you're perfect together.
