My ex-wife and I danced to a waltz version of "Blue in Green" by Miles Davis at our wedding. I am a terrible dancer, and I was a pretty terrible husband.

The guitar part in the chorus takes inspiration from the opening descending melody from "Blue in Green."- I began writing the song by playing various arrangements of the tune. Eventually it reached its current arpeggiating 4/4 pattern, paired with the upbeat riff featured in the verses and the phrase ends of the chorus. The source material is barely recognizable, but provides the song with its skeleton nevertheless.
