I spent most of the week working on a song based on the fable of the Scorpion and the Frog before I decided today that I really didn’t like it, so I wrote a new song about the Greek myth of Narcissus and Echo instead!

Narcissus was a good looking guy who the wood nymph Echo fell in love with. He didn’t exactly let her down gently and the pain caused her to fade away until only her echo remained. Narcissus was punished by falling in love with his reflection, wasting away and turning into a flower. Greek mythology is weird.

When her phone pinged

Echo thought it destiny
Nothing prepared
Her for the despair
Caused by his casual cruelty

Echo faded away
Narcissus will always be alone

With the sea of his complexion
So he sits and stares in genuflection
At the face in his reflection
