Night Sky - Janus Lies

from SpinTunes 20 Round 1 by Spintunes

/

about

Janus is a Roman god generally depicted as having two faces, one looking into the past, and one into the future. The song starts in the spring, when the speaker is offered love, but he defers it. He identifies with Janus' ability to see the past and the future, but curses his inability to see the present, and its opportunities. In the end, his chance is lost and his love leaves him. More invective for Janus ensues.

lyrics

Spring pools deep in the trees
Where sweet Molly calls to me
I closed the door when I heard
One more dream I’ll defer
Till I got the time to love her
Don’t flowers bloom endlessly?
Oh no
Whoa-oh no

Janus lies
He got four eyes to see nothing
How could I see
Janus lies, Janus lies

Janus your eyes on yesterday
Janus your eyes on tomorrow
You told me you see everything
But chance stood naked before me
And I stood cold stupid and blind

Icicles hang from the trees
Where the leaves used to be
I felt nothing but the cold
Tiny bells rang from the north
Her confused and lonesome horse
Carried Molly away from me
Oh no
Whoa-oh no

Janus lies
He got four eyes to see nothing
How could I see
Janus lies, Janus lies
Janus lies
He got four eyes to see nothing
How could I see
Janus lies, Janus lies

I said, how could I see
Janus lies, Janus lies
