I wrote these lyrics when the judges and I were debating the Final Round challenge - I liked the challenge in theory but was worried it would be too difficult, so I wanted to test myself against it. Well, I liked the lyrics well enough, so I decided to write the music. Then I liked the music well enough, so I decided to record it. Then I liked the recording well enough, so I decided to submit it. And here we are.

Muffled murmurs behind bolted doors
Ghostly groans down darkened corridors
Constant creaking
Sounds like speaking
All of it
Unintelligible

Letters layered onto weathered walls
Chambers covered up with spider scrawls
At every turning
Some written warning
Each message
Indecipherable

A figure follows furtively
Footsteps faintly fall
I finally find the fortitude to face yon friend or foe

His arm
My wrist
Those fingers
This fist
That breath in these lungs
One word on two tongues
Him and me
Indistinguishable
