Sometimes, we get restless. We know something is off, but we can’t quite put our finger on it. We think if we just make the right change, everything will work out, so we rearrange the furniture, get a new hobby, or move in with our partner. Each time we think, ‘This is it, this will quell my unsettled spirit.’ Each time, we are disappointed. We continually find something new to change, until, finally, we think, ‘Of course! This relationship is wrong!’ and end things, perhaps prematurely. At no point do we think the change needs to come from within.


This song is about a serial monogamist. Constantly in a never-ending cycle of new relationships, the narrator doesn’t even realize the pattern they are in. Always at fault is the partner, the relationship, external circumstances, but there is only one constant: the narrator themself. If a journey of introspection and self-improvement were undertaken, the spell could be broken. It is a difficult endeavor, however, and not one that everyone is prepared to undertake. So in this case, the narrator always ends up where they began: moving day, boxes ready and waiting.
