about
I was seemingly unable to stop crying for the three weeks leading up to the announcement of round 1's challenge. It was particularly bad on Fridays, when the compounding stress of the work week would combine with some heavy topics discussed in my weekly therapy sessions, and tears and bad feelings would bleed into the weekends. It was probably due to a snowballing effect of burnout and lack of sleep, and, as these things go, my body physically gave out the week of Round 1, forcing me to stop, slow down, and sit on the couch doing nothing. My dear friend Estaphonia helped me write and record this song, and I am so glad we got to collaborate on this. It was extremely cathartic, and pulled me out of the darkness.
The weather in the song is the same metaphor from Full Metal Alchemist when Roy Mustang says, "It's a terrible day for rain."
lyrics
It's amazing how the weather
Can turn on just a dime
How blue could stretch forever
Amidst unending shine,
And suddenly a little crack
Echoes in the air
Blue replaced with wispy grays
Laced with gusts of sharp despair
The atmosphere holds me here
A weighted blanket of mist
A storm within my heart begins
And cannot be dismissed
When it holds me in its eye
I glimpse at last, the bluest sky
I laugh and kick my heels with joy
Until the squall knocks me aside
These gray clouds call on me
Im wrapped in their embrace
As raindrops fall on me
Running down my face
In my eyes, I see them fall
In my heart, I feel them all
Heavy clouds that never seem to pass
Soak me to the bone and hold me fast
