I decided to try producing a song using just one instrument - an acoustic guitar. The only exception was of course using my voice for vocals.

The bass is the guitar pitch-shifted down one octave. I was quite surprised that it produced quite a passable upright bass. The bongo-like percussion comes from tapping the guitar body with my fingers and I used plastic drum brushes on the back of the guitar to create the main beat. I even put some rice inside the guitar body and recorded it for a shaker. I don’t recommend this - it takes ages to get it all out again!

And I also only used one dynamic mic for recording everything.

I’m used to having a whole arsenal of sampled and real instruments to choose from so it was quite a learning experience to come up with techniques to overcome the limitations of using one guitar.
