Hot Pink Halo - Exquisite Norks

about

I started this song thinking about the Exquisite Corpse game: someone draws a picture or writes a paragraph, folds the edge so that only a sliver is visible, then hands it to the next person in line, and by the end you have a weird whole thing.

When I was reading the Exquisite Corpse wikipedia article, I found reference to a "literary hoax" from the 70s, where a bunch of while male journalists decided that literature was going down the toilet, sex was the culprit, and they thought the best course of action was to cleverly point this out by writing the worst erotic fiction they could with a different writer for each chapter. Any "good" writing would be edited to make it as poor as possible, and the whole thing would be packaged under a female writer's pen name. 'Naked Came The Stranger' was released in 1969 (nice), and the hoax was revealed later in the year. Most articles and blog posts that I could find on the topic still consider this incredibly clever and hilarious. After reading up on the motivations and choices made in the story, I think it's pretty gross. My opinions on the matter are shared by this blog post — imightbepedantic.wordpress.com/2018/06/15/naked-came-the-stranger/ — and this related but unrelated video, Dear Stephenie Meyer — youtu.be/8O06tMbIKh0?si=z5i_hvGqOXmlaiRf

The line "hello pervert" is a quote from my recent favourite spam email.

lyrics

The sticks and stones they throw
They think they’re clever
The tricks and tunes they play
They think no-one’s ever done this before
It’s time to even the score

Let’s set the scene
It’s 69 (nice)
Don’t think too hard just type
(make em come twice)
But not too well or
We’ll put your words on ice

The sticks and stones they throw
They think they’re clever
The tricks and tunes they play
They think no-one’s ever done this before
It’s time to even the score

Hello pervert
I want to inform you
About a little game I like to play
You write a chapter!
I write a chapter!
They write a chapter!
And make it bad
You like to be bad, don’t you
Then we stick it all together
And ca-ching!

The sticks and stones they throw
They think they’re clever
The tricks and tunes they play
They think no-one’s ever done this before
It’s time to even the score

C’mon, let’s have some fun!
Uhhh, not that kind of fun…
My kind of fun!
FUN. FUN. FUN.
The kind of fun where me make fun
Of women having fun!
So fun!

The sticks and stones they throw
They think they’re clever
The tricks and tunes they play
They think no-one’s ever done this before
It’s time to even the score
