Eigengrau is the color that one perceives when their eyes are closed. It is a dark grey without visual contrast. Translated literally it means "inherent grey", eigen being German for "own".

When I desperately need to relax, I imagine the things I've seen and heard come pouring back out of my ears and eyes, leaving me be. "Eigengrau" finds the listener reclining in a twilight between sleeping and waking. The verses use extended chords to give a sense of movement without firmly establishing tonal location, as in a dream. The arpeggios slow down when the harmony accelerates; running without getting anywhere.
