about

Subject: Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter

Sara writes:
"I decided to use the only celebrity death I've experienced so far in my life that actually made me pretty deeply upset. I was a major Animal Planet nerd growing up, and a huge fan of the Crocodile Hunter. Steve Irwin was a complete idol of mine, because he did all these really daring, scary, and dangerous things, but all in the name of conservation. He wanted to share his passion for wildlife with the rest of the world and he did it in a very different and exciting way. It was a big shock to me (and everyone of course) when he died, but 1) He obviously died doing something he absolutely loved, which is the best possible way he could have gone out, and 2) How f***ing badass is it that he got stabbed in the heart by a stingray?"

lyrics

Way down yonder, I should say, "down under,"
Came a man with a passion as loud as a thunderclap
If you can imagine that
Spent his days facedown in the mud
Shoulders-deep where no sane man would ever go
That's his job, you know.

He taught us how to listen
Taught us how to love
Every living creature
From deep in the ground to the branches above
Turned fear to inspiration
And always with a smile
No I've never been to heaven, but hope it's full of crocodiles

He'd take chances in the name of advances
All the while with a drive that was truly outrageous
Positively contagious
Unafraid of a scratch or a bite
Planning trips to the deadliest places on earth
Sounds crazy, but for what it's worth

He taught us how to listen
Taught us how to love
Every living creature
From deep in the ground to the branches above
Turned fear to inspiration
And always with a smile
No I've never been to heaven, but hope it's full of crocodiles

Snakes, spiders, lizards, and crocs
Dive in the water in his shoes and socks
Freezing night or scorching day
Undone by a stingray...

He taught us how to listen
Taught us how to love
Every living creature
From deep in the ground to the branches above
Turned fear to inspiration
And always with a smile
No I've never been to heaven, but hope it's full of crocodiles
No I've never been to heaven, but hope it's full of crocodiles
No I've never been to heaven, but hope it's full of crocodiles
