I originally was beating my head against an entirely different concept. On Friday I was wound up at a bar I hated (smug “mixologists” in vests), but the music was fantastic. A lot of roots folk and country. I got really inspired and this song came out of it. I felt like an old salty dog who just wanted to drink in a shitty dive bar, so I turned that character up and wrote this.
