We came up with the name “Night Sky” for our band during a conversation about how to know if what you’re doing is right or helpful or any good at all. Best we can do is keep an eye on our own “north star” to keep ourselves on some kind of path, and hope to end up doing some good. We like to think that's true in life, in parenting, and in songwriting.

The song introduces a protagonist who is a biped (human, most likely) and a bricklayer. The speaker explores thoughts of focusing on small scale tasks while keeping in mind the uncertainty of the outcomes of their actions, where they fit in the big picture, and the failure of that north star to tell them where they're going.
