I learned about the life and supposed crimes of Countess Erzsébet Báthori of Hungary, also known as "Countess Dracula" and "The Blood Countess". Accused of torturing and killing as many as 650 daughters of the lesser gentry who she lured to her home where they would live and learn courtly etiquette. It was said she was attempting to steal their youth. The castle where these evil deeds were supposedly done was the same castle where Erzsébet was imprisoned for the rest of her life after being arrested along with her servants who admitted everything and were then executed. Historians differ as to the truth of the accusations, with many saying she was targeted and smeared by the state who wanted her lands and wealth. Either way, it's an interesting folklore tale if nothing else. So I learned about her and wrote a song about it!
