When I thought about something written that doesn’t repeat, for some reason, I thought of a eulogy… then I started thinking about the anniversary of my mother’s death. I really debated about whether to write something this raw… but I just let it all out AND I also tried to inject a little dark humor. Truth is, I just didn’t have a very nice mother. The only thing not true in this song is that my mom died 10 years ago. It felt like the song would have more emotional impact if it was the anniversary of the first year of her death - which is when I realized (in a really sad way), that her death set me free to be whoever I wanted to be…
