Sober - Back in Texas

from SpinTunes 22 Round 1 by Spintunes

/

about

Song bio: Coming up on two years since we moved from Houston to Maine. Texans have a lot of funny ideas about what life and the weather is like up here, and I'll admit that before moving, I was worried that we'd have to own snowmobiles in order to do our grocery shopping in the winter.

lyrics

Well the people back in Texas
Wonder how I get along
Do they all wear sealskin jackets
Do they smoke their brisket wrong
Well I try to tell em buddy
Don’t take this the wrong way
I’ll take Damariscotta Oysters
Over drive thru Chik Fil A

The people back in Texas
Wonder why did I go
From the sunny skies of Dallas
From training grounds at Lackland
From the humid swamp of Houston
To be buried in the snow
But the people living up here in Maine
Like Merle Haggard and Hank Williams just the same

Ain’t you worried bout moose attacks
Or slippin on the ice
Have the people up there shamed you
Into wearing boots that tie
I still have my ropers
And they’ve always had tread
To be caught with smooth-sole square toes
I’d rather be caught dead

Some have told me that it’s better
To stick around and fight
But it isn’t safe for people
Who check boxes that aren’t right
Good luck to those I left behind
I’m sorry that I’ve flown
But until they welcome everyone
I’ll call the northeast home
