Pretty far off the path lyrically from my more typical straightforward, countrified stuff, but the weather theme made me wax in a more philosophical (and metaphorical) direction a bit on the lyrics. As these words gradually unfolded, it felt like musically it wanted something that was a little bit country-pop, at least like stuff like that was a few decades back, versus what nowadays is pretty much regular pop sung with a twang and a drawl.

The swelter of the summer in the tropics is a trigger
Depression is a prophecy of something bigger
But no matter what that signaling may claim
Like love and loss the cycle is the same

As the hurricane spins
Raindrops battle for a place to land
The rattling winds
Make the palm trees bend
Then the roaring sea tries to claim the sand
Til the ocean finds it’s only made of little drops of rain again

We made a plan for life to last forever
We’d batten down the hatches in bad weather
But we were just a spark to catalyze
A glimpse of heaven in our children’s eyes

At the edge of this rock
Only flashes for a moment or two
