about
Flowing from the challenge title and this article that I found when researching alligator DNA (
www.technologyreview.com/2023/01/19/1067092/crispr-alligator-gene-catfish/), this song appeared. I had a vague recollection that alligator DNA was in some way special – had elements to it that were considered almost immortal. So, if you can use alligator genes to cure diseases in farm-reared catfish, why not use it to create immortal humans..? It’s a leap I know, but there we are. This is very much a home science experiment for my narrator, and not a successful one. It is not auto-biographical; I have not tried to extend my life with alligator gene implants. Not yet, anyway.

lyrics
(A) catfish injected alligator blood, cured its disease but still tasted good.
Can I cure my time-limited life?
Seems an easy fix if a fish can do it, guess that I should try.
Where can I find undiluted supply?
I don’t need much, just a pick-me-up, enough to see me right.
Pre-Ch:
Look at me, injecting mild positivity
If I mix things up and maybe bring some luck, achieve longevity.
Ch:
“Don’t be scared, be brave”, my brain says, as it infected me
“Just playing doctors and nurses, well, it’s supposed to be. There’s a lesson, pay attention! An education for free.”
Proper science or baseless nonsense, it’s all the same to me.
Verse 2:
Catfish sterile now for its own good.
Can’t replicate though it thinks it should.
Will I still like my neutered state of mind?
Remain child-free in perpetuity for the sake of human kind.
Where do I find an alligator that’s nice?
If it’s an angry one, it’ll be less fun; don’t think I can do this twice.
Pre-Ch:
Look at me, injecting mild positivity.
If I mix things up and maybe bring some luck, achieve longevity.

Outro:
A moderate alligator cannot be found; all the things I’ve said have put me in the ground.
